Empowering Rural India through Powerlooms Industry: A Backbone of Cloth Production and Employment

The Powerlooms Industry, classified as a small-scale sector, is one of the most job-oriented rural industries contributing greatly to India’s economic growth and development. It provides sustained employment and ensures continuous cloth production for various institutional needs, making it vital to rural livelihoods.

The Maharashtra State Powerlooms Corporation (MSPC) is effectively implementing a cloth production program through NCDC-affiliated societies in key powerloom hubs like Ichalkaranji, Karad, Malegaon, and Nagpur—regions known for their skilled weavers and contribution to India’s textile heritage. MSPC supports weavers and allied workers by offering fair and timely conversion charges, ensuring income stability and skill preservation in rural and semi-urban communities.

The cloth produced under this program is supplied on a wholesale basis to Government Departments, Semi-Government Organizations, Municipal Councils, and Government Hospitals at MSPC-specified rates, ensuring affordability, transparency, and quality. By supporting weavers and maintaining a strong production network, the Powerlooms Industry continues to be a pillar of rural industrialization and a key driver of India’s textile self-reliance.
